August 2012 President’s Letter

I hope you are all staying cool this summer. It has been a scorcher!  Now is the time for bruschetta, corn on the cob, a crisp white by the pool. As thrilled as I am to head to Eventworld and the ISES Leadership meetings in Dallas, Texas this week, I am dreading the 105 degree weather.  It will however make our recent hot July seem temperate and let’s face it, I am excited to channel my inner cowgirl. Yippee!!!

As I begin my presidency, I really must thank those that have served before me and set this chapter up for success.  Our Immediate Past President Matthew Trettel must be recognized for his strong vision, ingenuity and passion.  I look forward to his friendship and guidance this next year as I navigate my presidential duties.

I’d also like to thank Ryan Hanson, Past President, who officially leaves the board after many years, but definitely not the ISES family as he chairs the Education Council for ISES at the international level this year.  His enthusiasm and forward thinking has been a great asset to the board and entire organization. I know he will continue to contribute as he helps the transition to our new board.

I’d like to say CONGRATULATIONS to Jodi Collen, CSEP,  ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul Past President, and Past Chair of the Education Council, who was nominated as the Secretary of ISES International Board of Governors’ this year.  This is really exciting as it means she is in the pipeline to assume President of our International Organization of 5400+ members in 2015-16.  As many of know, Jodi is my Director at Augsburg College and I am very proud of her.

Now let’s look forward!  It is going to be an marvelous year! Our new ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter Board of Directors is incredibly smart, energetic, enthusiastic and eager to start the year off strong. We had a super board retreat where we were able to come together, brain storm and develop our plan for the year.

Elizabeth and Gretchen are working hard to plan some excellent programming including incorporating our Learning Labs into our Networking Events and doing some Event Previews again. They have some great ideas and speakers they are already working on and coming to Dallas to find some more.  If you have a new idea or would like to sponsor a program, please contact them at And put our next event on August 21st on your calendar. Food Trucks: Incorporating them into your next event.

Meghan and her Communications Team will be working on bringing some guest bloggers, creating a social media strategy, keeping the calendar and web site up to date user friendly and creating a functioning committee to help make it happen.  If you are interested in joining their committee, blogging, have member news or ideas to share, please contact them at

Matt and David with Membership will be looking for some ambassadors to greet new guests and testimonials from long time members.  If you have a great ISES story, are interested in membership or being an ambassadors, please contact them at

And one more note… I want everyone to know how ecstatic I am that Jean Peine has come on the board as President Elect this year.  She has such a wealth of industry knowledge, ISES awareness and enthusiasm that she will just make the board better.  Thank you Jean.

Warm regards,

Leslie Larson
