Program Review

Laura Rothstein, Event Coordinator

www.damicocatering.com

What started as a streamlined Tumblr account in 2009, has now grown into a broad-reaching, influential brand that collaborates with a number of established companies including Target, Madewell, Warby Parker and many more. Over the years, the Wit & Delight team has expanded their reach and branched into the realms of graphic design, content creation, brand consulting and communication strategy, just to name a few of their many skillsets. For the ILEA November luncheon, we were joined by Judith Kostroski, creative director and stylist for Wit & Delight, to discuss all things branding.

It’s the broad-reach of Wit & Delight that makes them a nation-wide influencer and helped them make the leap from blog to business. Kostroski partially attributes this to the emphasis they place on distributing engaging content. Engaging content fuels the reader’s interaction to keep them interested and retain loyal followers.  The Wit & Delight team focuses on defining a personal brand that shows the creator, Kate Arends, authentic vison. Kostroski was quick to emphasize that promoting a personal brand is not to be confused with “self promotional.” The team carries the mantra of “confidence is not to be confused with cockiness” as well as “we control our own narratives”. It’s within this supportive, encouraging environment where creatives thrive and learn from each other.

Another important aspect that helped cultivate the Wit & Delight brand is the importance of consistency. Consistency of the voice each post is written in; consistency in the quality of each photo that is placed on social media; consistency of the content readers absorb; and most importantly, consistency of the time and frequency of the posting to maintain and grow their reader base.

What started solely as a blog, now reaches readers through various platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.  As technology continues to evolve so does Wit & Delight.

This wonderful behind the scenes look at the Wit & Delight brand would not have been possible without the help of our amazing sponsors. A special thanks to Studio 125 for hosting, The Wedge Co-op for the amazing spread, BeEvents for beautifully furnishing the space and AVEX for their audio visual expertise. What a great collaborative effort!
