June 2012 President’s Letter

As our fellow ISES members across the pond are preparing for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, I think of the countless torch runners advancing the flame toward the opening ceremonies. It seems somewhat poetic that as they are passing the flame, so am I. It’s June, which means there are just days left for me to serve as your ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter President. The last few months have been a transition for me as my ISES flame is being passed to a long time colleague and great friend, Leslie Larson your next Chapter President. Leslie, no doubt will carry on our Chapter’s history of excellence. She is excited and committed to do great things.

It was an extreme pleasure to serve on the nominating committee this year as we assembled the 2012-2013 Board which is now confirmed. I hope that my legacy as the Chapter Present is moving the ISES Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter forward. As my year is winding down, I’ve been working hard along side your 2011-2012 Board of Directors to complete our plan of work for this year. I am proud to say the team has worked hard to achieve the sizable goals we set back at our board retreat last July. This year we launched our new website, added three new programs to our calendar to offer members year-round programming, and this month are launching our new streamlined (and mobile friendly) newsletter format. But that is just the tip our ice berg. Behind the scenes your board has been strategically focused on streamlining the work of the chapter and integrating new technologies so that we can be more efficient. This included taking the Star Award entry process into the 21st Century with the new on-line entry process. This was a huge undertaking in itself. We have also been developing a more cohesive marketing and branding campaign, pieces of which you will start to see at the June program. I am thrilled that we were able to accomplish so much this year. Having served on the board for 5 years, it was exciting to see initiatives that have been discussed since I joined the board back in 2007 come to fruition. For me this offers a sense of closure before I pass this flame to Leslie and the 2012-2013 Board.

A big thank you to everyone who has helped make this year great. Thank you to all that participated in this organization over the 2011-2012 year, whether as members who attended programs, as associates and non-members who were our guests, and to the companies who understand the value in supporting their employees membership and participation in order to learn, connect, and volunteer.  To everyone who sponsored their time, their staff, or their products – it is because of you that the ISES program and event experience is so great.  And to a specific group of 12 members who answered the call over the past year to lead this organization, as your volunteer board, a heartfelt thank you.  It has been my privilege to be your President and I promise you are in great hands for the year ahead!

All my best,

Matthew
